Online communities and you....
Can I get other people's thoughts on a question that's occured to me in looking into communities....
At a personal level, does the lack of physicality (and potential anonymity) of an online community make you more inclined to be honest or dishonest about who you are and what you think?
Just interested in getting different views on this.

I agree with Mai Kato, in that it is often easier to be honest when nobody actually know who you are (for an intersting example think about people under oppressive regimes that use the internet to communicate politically). I've always been a lot better at writing than I am at speaking, so I am potentially better able to get my true thoughts across via the written word and the internet medium caters for this. On a personal level though, I've never really engaged in the internet as part of a community except some brief flirtings with online games, so I'm yet to really test that theory personally.
